I usually walk my dogs around 4-5am in the mornings & I've seen some weird things in the sky.
Typically, the views to the west of my n'hood gets the Will Rogers air traffic & the views to the east of my n'hood gets the TAFB air traffic. And the smaller air crafts fly directly over my n'hood, like choppers & single engines. So I'm not surprised when I see something in the skies. But, one morning I saw a huge craft with lights in the front & it made no sound, just south & west of the n'hood. It appeared to be very close because it was big. I thought it was flying towards Will Rogers, but I lost it behind the trees & houses so I waited for it to fly over & it never did. It couldn't have landed anywhere unless it landed on SE 4th St. :m: FREAKY!!

Well, a 747 looks like it's moving lazily along too up there...and a 747 is a lot closer to you. But that 747 is traveling at around 80% of mach.

Think of it that way.

That light in the sky was actually really hauling the mail...

Say for the sake of argument that it was 20 miles away in that video and imagine how far it traveled in that time it was on video.

this meteor is moving much faster than the vid above and coming at you so it probably if taken from the side would move even faster to the eye... (aircraft with lights on look as if they hover when they are coming at you)

just to add after studying the moon effect for the last few months or so I just don't trust my eyes anymore

My guess would be that the first one passed through the upper atmosphere, and the second one actually hit the Earth. So, the second one would appear to be moving faster. Meteor vs meterorite.

too many variables to be 100% sure and there's no set speed for meterors or ites, but the texas vid shows as you mentioned it leaving or just skimming the atmosphere is just that...there's an app I have that shows satellites and where they will be visible...you can sit there and watch them appear and glow at dusk for a bit then just fade away like the 1st vids object...

Those meteorites can be worth a lot of money if you can find a nice chunk... :biggreen:
