2.3M vehicles.

Apparently 1.7M vehicles have both types of sticking throttle problems...

Quote:
(WXYZ) - Toyota is recalling 2.3 million vehicles to fix a problem that causes the accelerator pedal to stick.

This recall is separate from another recall of 4.2 million Toyota and Lexus vehicles. That recall pertained to the pedal getting stuck under the floor mat. The company says approximately 1.7 million vehicles are subject by both recalls.

Today's recall affects the following vehicles:

•2009-2010 RAV4
•2009-2010 Corolla
•2009-2010 Matrix
•2005-2010 Avalon
•2007-2010 Camry
•2010 Highlander
•2007-2010 Tundra
•2008-2010 Sequoia
No Lexus or Scion vehicles are affected by the recall. The Prius, Tacoma, Sienna, Venza, Solara, Yaris, 4Runner, FJ Cruiser, Land Cruiser and select Camry models, including all Camry hybrids, are also not affected.

The Toyota says that in certain cases the pedal mechanism becomes worn and, in certain conditions, the accelerator pedal may become harder to depress, slower to return or, in the worst case, stuck in a partially depressed position. The company is working to correct the problem.

Owners who have questions or concerns should contact the Toyota Customer Experience Center at 1 (800) 331-4331.

Getting big. Suspension of sales and production...

Quote:
In an unprecedented auto-industry move — but echoing the massive Tylenol drug recall of 1982 — Toyota told its U.S. dealers Tuesday to immediately quit selling the new and used cars and trucks that it recalled on Jan. 21 because their throttles could stick open.
Toyota also said it will quit building 2010 versions of those models on Monday and that the halt will last until it finds a remedy for the stuck-throttle problem. That could take weeks, the company previously said, but it gave no forecast Tuesday.

For auto shoppers, it means that some of the most popular Toyota-brand vehicles will be harder to find or not available.

The fix is to replace or modify the pedal assembly, fix the floor mat retention problem, lower the floor pan in some cases, and add brake/throttle conflict recognition to the DBW programming.

I know from my testing that my Jeep already has that last item. :biggreen:

The pedal assemblies in question are made by an American company, CTS, in a Canadian plant. If your Toyota/Lexus was built in Japan, J vin, it has a Denso pedal assembly and it's fine, but you still need the floor mat fix and the ECM reprogramming.

Let's not forget the conflict of interest here. GM/Chrysler are union and US Government owned and they'd love to see Toyota suffer...

LOLOL ! that is the way dems work...

now if my pedal stuck I think the first thing I would do is shift to low and brake...when I figured out it was not gonna work I would turn off the car...I'm still a bit amazed with the recent crashes, that just turning the car off is not what toyota owners would do right off the bat...since the info has been out for 4 months...
