why is the cowling around the exhaust of the engine jagged like that ? is that a sound reduction thing ?

btw, they are spraying again !

The GE GEnx engines are indeed the quietest commercial jet engines ever made. They are also on the 787.

The chevrons reduce noise significantly.

There is lots of new stuff in these engines.
