Coolest March since 1994Apr 8, 2011; 10:58 AM ET
Remote Sensing Systems has released their satellite measured temperature data for the month of March 2011.

March 2011 ended up as the coolest March globally since March of 1994. The actual global temperature anomaly for the lower troposphere last month was negative 0.026 C.

This is also the first month since June of 2008 that the global temperature anomaly was in the negative.

The RSS image below gives you a visual of where the warmer and colder than normal regions were across the globe for March 2011.

never ceases to amaze me what some people will study...

"Marijuana causes global warming, uses 1% of U.S. electricity"

People growing marijuana indoors use 1 percent of the U.S. electricity supply, and they create 17 million metric tons of carbon dioxide every year (not counting the smoke exhaled) according to a report by Evan Mills, an energy analyst at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.

After medical pot use was made legal in California in 1996, Mills says, per-person residential electricity use in Humboldt County jumped 50 percent compared to other parts of the state.

In order to produce some 17,000 metric tons of marijuana this year, Mills estimates authorized growers will use $5 billion worth of energy. That works out to the output of seven big electric power plants.

Much of the carbon dioxide produced by the industry comes from transportation, though the need for lights

If it's legal, what's the matter with the sun? Even in winter, you can use a greenhouse. Especially if your winters are relatively mild.

people of the world are not buying...

(CNSNews.com) - Most of the human race does not see global warming as a serious threat, according to a Gallup poll released last week that surveyed individuals in 111 countries.

Respondents were asked:

underpressure :

For the second time in four months the Environmental Protection Agency has confirmed that they will again delay the release of their much anticipated global warming regulations.

An EPA spokeswoman told National Journal Thursday that the EPA will not issue caps on greenhouse gas emissions pursuant to the Clean Air Act by their latest September 30th deadline. The EPA had originally promised the environmental activist groups suing the federal government that they would issue global warming regulations by July 26th.

The EPA's latest retreat on climate change regulation comes almost two weeks after President Obama ordered EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson to rescind her ozone rules. According to the EPA's own esitmates, the ozone rule would have infliced $90 billion in costs on the U.S. economy every year. Analysts expect the EPA's global warming regulations to cost more than $100 billion annually.

maybe the next president will put a cap on the EPA

we should take up a collection and send algore to cordova....

About 150 miles to the southeast of Anchorage, the Prince William Sound community of Cordova has already been buried under 172 inches of snow since Nov. 1 and is trying to dig out from recent storms.

Another 4 to 7 inches could fall Thursday, Baines said.

City officials in Cordova, a picturesque fishing community, already have learned that a regular shovel just won't cut it when you're digging out from nearly 15 feet of snow.

There were plenty of standard shovels around town. But what they needed was a larger version with a scoop that can push a cubic foot of snow or better at a time.

"That's what's missing in Alaska," city spokesman Tim Joyce said Wednesday.

Not anymore.

"We will be shipping 72 shovels to Alaska by plane (Thursday) to help," said Genevieve Gagne, product manager at the shovel's maker, Quebec, Canada-based Garant.

The new shovels cost about $50 each, and the city is paying for them with its emergency funds.

The Yukon ergo sleigh shovels, with a 26-inch scoop, have a huge advantage over regular shovels. "Trying to lift snow all day with those is pretty backbreaking," Joyce said.

"We have the National Guard right now using the standard shovel, and they're getting pretty trashed everyday -- not the shovels but the Guardsmen themselves," he said.

Temperatures warmed Wednesday, when residents awoke to standing water because of stopped-up drains. The rain also made the existing snow heavier.

The warmer temperatures -- about 35 degrees midday Wednesday -- brought another hazard to the Prince William Sound community of 2,200 people: avalanche danger.

There's one road leading out, and it was closed though it could be opened for emergency vehicles.

The city also is warning people not to stand under the eaves of their houses to clear snow off the roof for fear the snow will come down on them.

"There's a real high potential that if it does slide, they'd be buried," he said.

So far, four commercial buildings and two homes have been damaged from snow accumulation on roofs. A 24-unit apartment complex also had to be evacuated.

the icy dagger for global warmers...

The world stopped getting warmer almost 16 years ago, according to new data released last week.
The figures, which have triggered debate among climate scientists, reveal that from the beginning of 1997 until August 2012, there was no discernible rise in aggregate global temperatures.
This means that the ‘plateau’ or ‘pause’ in global warming has now lasted for about the same time as the previous period when temperatures rose, 1980 to 1996. Before that, temperatures had been stable or declining for about 40 years.

For the first time since written weather history began in Arkansas (1819), snow has fallen in the month of May. This snow has set records for the latest snowfall and latest measurable snowfall in the state.

The previous latest snowfall ever recorded was on April 30, 1903 at Harrison, Gravette and Fayetteville. This was not measurable.

The previous latest measurable snowfall was 0.2 inches at Corning on April 24, 1910.

Below is a list of snowfall measurements from National Weather Service cooperative observer stations through specified times on Friday morning.

Fayetteville experiment station, 1.5 inches, 7 a.m.

Compton, 1 inch, 10 a.m.

Hindsville, 1 inch, 6:40 a.m.

Winslow, 1 inch, 7 a.m.

Kingston, 0.2 inch, 7 a.m.

Traces of snow were also recorded in Harrison, Jasper, Omaha, Parthenon and Ratcliff.

Record cold high temperatures have been seen at a number of stations. At the locations listed below, the calendar day high temperature for May 3 was the coldest ever recorded for the month of May.

Locations, Friday’s temperature and previous record lows for May 3 include the following.

Harrison, 38/45.

Flippin, 39/51.

Batesville airport, 45/45.

North Little Rock, 48/50.

Little Rock, 52/52.

Pine Bluff, 52/56.

Russellville, 52/53.

the potus said here the other day climate change is a crisis in a speech back east...not one news outlet mentioned that the "globe" has not seen any warming in 15 years...

I'm not sure what the bigger joke is our president, our media, or the people who believe either of the previous...

this happens so often to them...no matter where they are...

Originally about 300 people were slated to participate in the Calgary protest, but due to a snow storm only about 50 showed up.
